To offer financial support to individuals beginning their independent research careers at the faculty level. Qualifications: Applicants (U.S. and non-U.S. citizens) must be full-time, promotion-eligible, research-intensive faculty employed at a PhD and/or MS degree-granting accredited U.S. university by the time of award activation; applicants are not eligible if applicants faculty status began before January 1, before 2 years; applicants must be eligible to apply for independent external research funding by their university; applicants should not have other substantial sources of research funding, excluding intramural funding or start-up funding from their university; applicants are ineligible if they are the principal investigator (PI) of an R or K series award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a CAREER award from the National Science Foundation, or other significant financial award from any grant-making institution; applicants should not have other substantial sources of research funding; individuals receiving only intramural funding or start-up funding from their university are eligible to apply. Selection criteria: Applicants will be judged on the scientific merit of the proposed research and on the degree of financial need. How to apply: Applicants must submit online nomination form; must be included CV or biosketch (should be NIH or NSF format); extended letter (personal statement); research plan(must prepare a comprehensive yet concise statement, not to exceed eight single-spaced pages.); their brief biosketch; research impact questions; budget; other sources of funding/funding explanation; manuscripts/presentations; references. Focus: Health sciences; Public health.
