To provide financial support to individuals beginning their independent research careers at the faculty level. Qualifications: Applicants must be holding an academic rank of Assistant Professor (or Research Assistant Professor) within a tenure-track (or Research track) appointment; must be sponsored by the department or unit in which the proposed research is to be undertaken; must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Selection criteria: Judged on the scientific merit of the proposed research, and on the degree of financial need. How to apply: Applicants should include general registration information; curriculum vitae or bio sketch; extended letter; thesis project description; a titled abstract of approximately 200 words concerning proposed research plan; official transcripts; thesis advisor information and letter of reference; reference letter from an individual other than the thesis advisor, who is knowledgeable about the candidate’s scientific skills, must comment on the candidate’s potential for a career in research.
