To provide modest research support for specific projects of individual tenured and tenure-track faculty members. Qualifications: Applicants must be a intended to cover certain unanticipated costs or special needs and should not be considered a means of supporting ongoing projects; we will not fund a specific project more than once; ineligible activities: faculty development-activities such as learning a new technique, language, methodology or completing a thesis or dissertation; institutional research-studies related directly to the operation of the university that are not generalizable and have little application beyond us; public service and consulting; departmental curriculum development, such as the preparation of curriculum materials, curriculum modifications and student interest surveys; edited work; although collaboration is allowed, the research or creative project must be the original work of the named applicant.
