To provide a graduating seniors of high schools located in the District of Columbia and adjacent counties of the state of Maryland (see counties listed above). Qualifications: Applicants must be an African American with permanent residency in the district of Columbia or one of these Maryland counties: Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Howard, Montgomery, or Prince George's; must be a high school senior enrolled in a school located; have a 2.8 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale; graduate from high school in the year the scholarship is awarded; demonstrate financial need; plan to study nursing at the bachelor's or baccalaureate level, either full-time or parttime. How to apply: Applicants must submit a nomination form; have a letter of acceptance into a school or university with a nationally accredited bachelor’s/baccalaureate nursing program; submit the following information in one PDF with bookmarks or before the deadline date: a completed and signed application form; a written essay (300 words or less) that describes 1) the applicant’s personal and educational goals, 2) current and projected contributions to the community, including high school community service and volunteer activities, 3) reasons the applicant should be selected to receive the scholarship, and 4) evidence of the applicant’s financial need to complete their educational goals; at least two (2), but no more than four (4), letters of recommendation from unrelated adults, including a current or former high school teacher or counselor and one community member/leader or religious member/leader who can address the applicant’s scholarship ability and potential, leadership skills and qualities, adaptability and flexibility, and character; individuals providing recommendations must use the Scholarship Recommendation Form attached to the application (recommendations from family members are not acceptable, even if the family member is a teacher, employer, religious member/leader, or community leader); evidence of the applicant’s scholastic achievements, extracurricular activities, volunteer service, honors received, awards, certificates of recognition, and/or letters recognizing or commending their actions; a copy of the applicant’s acceptance letter to a college or university.
