To recognize academic excellence and support access to post-secondary education for students of Caribbean and African heritage; To provide financial aid to undergraduate students pursuing studies at Ontario colleges or universities, helping to alleviate financial barriers. Qualifications: Applicants must be undergraduate students pursuing studies at Ontario colleges or universities, helping to alleviate financial barriers; must be of Caribbean/African background and provide proof of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or student status; must be enrolled full-time at an Ontario post-secondary institution (proof of enrollment required); must demonstrate financial need (income and expenses statement required); domestic and international students who are enrolled in an Ontario college or university and can reflect personal accomplishments, leadership, and potential in their application; JCA scholarship recipients are committed to both their career goals and giving back to the community; graduate and professional studies (e.g., law, medical school, master’s, doctoral degrees) are not eligible; applicants studying at institutions outside of Ontario are not eligible; applicants must be of Caribbean or African heritage. Selection criteria: JCA Scholarship committee and the scholarship donor will make final decisions, which are not subject to appeal; preference for studies related to music based on demonstrated academic ability, involvement in school and/or community leadership activities and volunteerism, financial need, personal achievements beyond academics which may include personal accomplishments in spite of hardships, and a commitment to their career goals and to giving back. Applicants must be of Caribbean or African heritage. How to apply: Applicants must submit online application form; should include: proof of full-time enrollment in an Ontario college or university; proof of status in Canada; a two-page essay that describes why applicants are applying for this scholarship, applicants academic goals, career goals, life experiences relevant to applicants application, any hardships applicants have encountered, involvement in volunteer/leadership activities, and how applicants plan to pay it forward if applicants are selected; most recent transcript; a breakdown of income and expenses for the upcoming academic year; applicant photograph and summary; two references (academic, employment or volunteer-related); submit report cards (for high school students) or academic transcripts (for students already attending college or university).
