To provide support to visually impaired students pursuing college educations. Qualifications: The applicant’s college must be accredited by a body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation; all college admissions policies must be non-denominational and open to applicants of all religions, faiths, and beliefs; applicants must provide proof of legal blindness in the form of a statement from a state rehabilitation agency, an ophthalmologist, or an optometrist; applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency in the form of a passport, birth certificate, naturalization papers, or proof of legal residency. Selection criteria: Awards are given based on academic merit and other achievements. How to apply: Applicants must submit an online application form; provide documentation of academic achievement through copies of school transcripts; include three letters of recommendation, with two attesting to academic skills; each letter must contain the name, address, and telephone number of the reference writer; submit a personal statement of 500 words or fewer. For both the college and graduate school scholarships, an essay describing educational and personal goals must also be included. Focus: General studies/Field of study not specified.
