To provide financial support to deserving students in Alaska who want to pursue an education in any campus of the University of Alaska. Qualifications: Applicants must be first-time incoming freshman students enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program at any of UA campus (whether at Fairbanks, at Anchorage, or at Southeast); must have the intent to become elementary or secondary school teachers in Alaska and be enrolled in academic programs leading toward that end; must be Alaska residents and graduates of a public or private school in Alaska. Selection criteria: Preference will be given to students who shows a desire to teach and are in the top 25% of their class. How to apply: Applicants must complete and submit the application form available at the website together with two letters of recommendation, and current transcripts; must also attach an additional statement of 1,000 words or less entitled "Why I Want to become a Teacher of Children in Alaska"; should also briefly express their opinion of Alaska's educational system(s) and their thoughts on changes they would embrace therein. Focus: Teaching.
