To support students who are among the first in their families to attend a college or university. Qualifications: Applicants must be a current high school senior, among the first generation in family to attend college/university, and recognize the sacrifices parent(s) have made to support applicants in their pursuit of a postsecondary education; must be a current participant in the VSAC Talent Search program or GEAR UP Priority program; must be enroll full time in an undergraduate degree program; must have demonstrate financial need; face significant barriers that limit access to a postsecondary education; demonstrate education/work ethic; demonstrate academic achievement (minimum 2.8 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale);must be attend an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding (Pell grants, federal Direct loans); students attending (or planning to attend) a college, university or training program within the united States or Canada who are: United States citizens (or eligible non-citizens), and Vermont residents (unless the scholarship or forgivable loan specifies otherwise). Selection criteria: Selection will be based on essay, financial need, and academic achievement. How to apply: Applicant must submit online application form; should include: federal Student Aid (FAFSA); transcript; other required documents should be submitted on a separate sheet of paper; essays: each essay must be written by the applicant and should include the applicant’s name and last four digits of their social security number at the top; general essay: commitment/goals; financial need; community service; uniqueness (minimum 250 words).
